Song No. 72 — Conversa | Jair Amorim & Evaldo Gouveia (1959)

Alaíde Costa - Gosto de Você (1959) a

Conversa was introduced in 1959 by Alaíde Costa on her album Gosto de Você. Although her recording of Conversa dated April it was issued on single only in July as A-side to Lobo Bobo. The first single release was probably by Silvio Silva, recorded and issued in June as A-side to A Canção do Pequeno Polegar (Tom Thumb’s Tune).

Trio NagôThe ballad appeared on at least four albums and four singles from June to December. Hebe Camargo recorded the song in November 1959 and released it as B-side- to her hit Quem é in December. The exact dates of Lucienne Franco’s fine rendition, issued as A-side to Não Foi a Saudade in 1959 as well, is not detectable.

Conversa was the first joint composition of Evaldo Gouveia, founding member of Trio Nagô, and Jair Amorim who both already enjoyed numerous hits of their own. Conversa was allegedly written on the day both first met at the UBC, the Brazilian union of composers, and it was followed by about 150 other songs, including hits like Alguém Me Disse, Garota Moderna and E a Vida Continua. However, although Conversa was quite popular in 1959 and 1960 with about sixteen recordings, it unjustly went into oblivion after a final version by actress Sônia Dutra in 1968.

CONVERSA
