Song No. 134 — Tamanco no Samba | Orlandivo & Hélton Menezes (1962)

Tamanco no Samba was introduced in March 1962 by Célia Reis as B-side to Influência do Jazz. The single heralded her sole career album titled O Samba é Célia Reis featuring arrangements and guitar by Baden Powell and organ by Celso Murilo.

Tamanco no Samba was released on single two more times, first in May 1962 by Waldir Calmon, and in 1963 by Cauby Peixoto. Celso Murilo recorded the song twice, on his own album Órgão e Ritmo aka Convida a Dançar and as part of Os 7 Diabos.

Along with Bolinhas de Sabão and Samba Toff, Tamanco no Samba is one of Orlandivo Honório de Souza’s best known songs, and a perfect example of classic sambalanço, a swinging style which enjoyed great popularity from the late fifties until the mid- sixties mixing samba and bossa nova with a jazz tinge.
