Para Não Sofrer was introduced in May 1962 by Nelly Martins on her single Insensatez b/w Para Não Sofrer. Presumably, this was the last of about 17 singles by the singer and actress released between 1956 and 1962.
The wistful song is one of the lesser known compositions by Antônio Carlos Jobim since it undeservedly went into oblivion for about forty years almost right after its debut until it was rediscovered in 2005 for a collaboration album by various members of the Caymmi and Jobim families, titled Falando de Amor.
Including Orlando Silveira’s version, strangely titled Velho Riacho, Para Não Sofrer was recorded five times in 1962 and 1963.
Interestingly, the original arrangement for Nelly Martins was reutilized the following year by Jorge Ferreira da Silva aka Jorginho da Flauta on his collaboration album with saxophonist Aurino Ferreira de Oliveira, titled Na Cadência do Samba.
